Bread flour and video chats

Liam helped me make bread again today. Things started out respectably, but turned south pretty quickly! The flour on the face was just before Liam tried to eat his bread dough. This time I caught him trying . . . all 3 times!!

We learned last week during a Skype chat with Raymond in Congo that Liam finally 'got' video chat. He recognized Raymond and waved and played. We tried video chat again today with Oma and Opa and Liam finally got into the chat. He loved playing games and 'talking' with them.

Baecker Liam (Liam, the baker!)

Liam loves helping me make bread now. He will play with all of the ingredients, watch the mixer, and now he even gets his own piece of dough to knead. He always eyes the dough and I have to tell him not to eat it because it is yucky. Today I didn't watch closely enough and his ball of dough was gone before I saw he was eating it (yay, me!). I wasn't surprised that he tried to eat it, but I was surprised that he ate the whole thing after taking the first bite. It's fun having a kitchen helper (most of the time).

Liam, where is your dough?!

22 months and 2 days

22 months old

Liam was 22 months on Tuesday. And for his latest trick - Liam said 'Oma' for the first time. Listen very closely after I say 'hallo Oma, hallo Opa.' It's a start!! (Click the play button to load the video. Click on the square on the bottom right with the arrows moving outward to view as full screen. The quality is not great since I used my iPhone . . . )

Sonnenbrillenbaby II

Liam has become so fascinated with our sunglasses that we decided to get him a pair of his own. We were not quite sure if he was going tolerate them, but he saw Elmo and the rest is history. At least for today, he is wearing them whenever he goes outside.

(and the cooking spray - which was his favorite grocery item of the day)

Just too much fun to stay awake all the way home

Sonnenbrillenbaby

Liam is now nearly tall enough to see above our island. This makes our ability to hide things much harder. In the past couple of days we have found him on the den floor playing with every remote we have, my iPhone, and my personal favorite - the bread knife. This evening he got my sunglasses, put them on, and ran around the house squealing and laughing. Tobias was able to get this sweet picture.

This evening he also got the TiVo remote and figured out how to pause and play live TV. This realization also brought on squeals and smiles.

On an unrelated note - Liam has a new tooth. 3 more to go.

Happy birthday, America!!

We had a fun cookout tonight with family and friends for the 4th of July. Liam had a blast playing with Ann, Abby, and a new neighbor named Bryson. He is getting braver and braver with the sprinkler and tonight he finally ran into it when he saw Ann and Abby playing in it.

My dessert for the evening.
It is actually a giant sugar cookie covered in a cream cheese icing and fruit.
It is flat like a pancake and obviously designed to look like our flag.
I call it the Fahnenkuchen.
(At least that is my attempt at a German pun on Pfannkuchen)

Sprinkler fun with GG

GG bought a new sprinkler for Liam and the other great-grandchildren. Liam got to try it out tonight for the first time. He was a little afraid of it at first and just wanted to stick his arms in. I was able to convince him to play 'eins, zwei, drei' with me, which meant I would swing him near the sprinkler on 'eins, zwei, and then swing him in on 'drei'. He had a great time.

It wasn't long before he wanted to know how the sprinkler worked. He ended spending a good bit of time turning the water on and off and running to see what changed when he did that.

Happy 4th of July!!

Happy 4th of July to all of our US compatriots - - especially my newest ones. Tobias and Liam worked with some pretty famous guys to make the Founding Father's rap. The Germericans have got some moves!!!
